Rhyl & District Amateur Radio Club - GW4ARC

Rhyl and District Amateur Radio Club - Contest group - 1982 Welcome to the website of the 'Rhyl and District Amateur Radio Club' - (originally called The 'Flintshire Radio Society'). We are located in the seaside town of Rhyl, on the North coast of Wales, in the U.K.   Locator - IO83gh.

The Rhyl and District Amateur Radio Club is a friendly and dedicated amateur radio group that attracts members from all over North Wales, including Denbighshire, Flintshire, & Conwy counties. We even have some members travelling from as far away as Cheshire and Merseyside. We pride ourselves in being open, friendly, and helpful to all, especially to new or less experienced members. Anyone with an interest in radio communication, regardless of what type of licence you hold, or how long you have held it, are most welcome. If you don't yet have a licence and just want to see what it's all about, or if you want to learn how to obtain a licence, or if you are just interested in listening, we have something to offer you. Why not join us?

Collectively, our members have a great deal of experience in many aspects of Amateur Radio operating - CW, SSB, FM, Digital modes, Contests, Special Events, DF (direction finding) hunts, DXing and local ragchews, on both HF and VHF/UHF bands - as well as design, construction, repair and maintenance of radio equipment and antennas. We'd love to share our knowledge and experience with you..

Amateur / Ham Radio Operator

On several occasions, our members have unanimously decided that they want the club to be run informally - i.e. no committee meetings, AGMs, or other formal arrangements.

So the Rhyl and District Amateur Radio Club is run as an informal club and contest group.

We do have a constitution and volunteer officials & committee for the purpose of RSGB affiliation etc., but we do not hold committee meetings, AGMs or other formal meetings. We feel Amateur Radio is a hobby, to be enjoyed, and having committee meetings etc. is too much like work. Instead, we meet informally, socially, where all members are equal, and our members themselves decide what activities we do, and when we do them.

We currently meet at 7:30pm on the 1st Wednesday of each month, in the Rhyl Yacht Club building, Horton Nose Lane, Kinmel Bay, Rhyl LL18 5AR (just on the Kinmel Bay side of the blue "Foryd Bridge") Please keep checking our Program or News pages for details of our next meetings or events)

Our Club callsign GW4ARC (& GC4ARC) is used for our Club Nets and Contests etc. If you hear us on the radio please give us a call..

Membership of the Rhyl and District Amateur Radio Club is open to any Radio Amateur, Short Wave Listener, or other interested person in the Rhyl or North Wales area, and there are no annual membership fees at the moment. The Club encourages all its members to abide by the Radio Amateurs Code of Conduct and the DX Code of Conduct.

Can you help? - If anyone has any old pictures of club activities or members, we would be pleased to add them to the Photo Gallery. Please contact us if you have anything suitable.
