As usual, the newspaper article was completely wrong!!
The people in the photograph were not the group that went to Puffin Island.
Only Ted DSJ and Alan HDR from this picture actually went.
The Puffin Island expedition was organised by the 'North Wales Radio Society', assisted by our club.
Puffin Island is a small island, approximately 1100m long by 330m wide.
It is about 55m ASL at it's highest point. It is located 750m off the South Eastern most tip of the Island of Anglesey.
The island is uninhabited, except for thousands of sea birds, and a lot of rats.
I don't think any puffins have been seen here for many years.
The only buildings are the ruins of an old monastary, and an old semaphore station.
It is a true island, separated from the main island of Anglesey by a deep channel,
but the RSGB's IOTA committee for some reason would not accept this as an IOTA island in it's own right,
and would not issue us with an IOTA reference!.
